U.S. Green Building Council Announces Recipients of 2022 LEED Homes Awards
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced the recipients of its annual LEED Homes Awards, celebrating green residential projects, builders, and developers.
Recipients represent single-family, multifamily, and affordable housing projects from around the world.
“Our homes are the most personal spaces we occupy, and building more residential projects to LEED can have a profound impact on people and communities,” says Peter Templeton, interim president and CEO at USGBC. “This year’s LEED Homes Award recipients demonstrate that by applying LEED to residential projects, these spaces are transformed, creating sustainable and healthier homes for families."
For the single-family projects, Casa Anahuac in Monterrey, Mexico, is the first project to achieve Platinum level under LEED for Homes certification in Latin America and the first residential project certified LEED Zero Energy outside the United States. In the U.S., the Myers Heckman Residence in Cincinnati and the Newman Residence in Chicago also received LEED Platinum designations.
In multifamily, Fair Oak Commons in Redwood City, California, earned LEED Platinum, while Viamonte at Walnut Creek in the San Francisco Bay Area and AMLI Fountain Place in Dallas obtained LEED Gold.
Three affordable communities—Vincent’s Village in Nanuet, New York, Osborn Commons in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and West End Heights in Ithaca, New York—received LEED Gold as well.
Kaust Villa in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, earned the 2022 Project of the Year. The LEED Platinum home is the first in a series for King Abdullah University, which seeks to develop a campus with sustainability, efficiency, and comfort as its main principles.
The awards also recognize LEED Homes Power Builders, a group of builders and developers who have exhibited a commitment to LEED and residential green building. At least 75% of each Power Builder’s homes/unit count from 2021 achieved LEED certification.
